Some elements that occur in environment in trace amounts, or are acquired on exposure with cosmetics, certain foods, supplements, daily use of industrially produced items, or through accumulation in the body over time can adversely impact our health.
Many of them, e.g., iodine and selenium are not produced by the body but might accumulate on exposure to industrial sources. Others, including arsenic and mercury are highly toxic above a certain threshold. Many of them have been part of everyday life (e.g., lead, copper, nickel, etc.)
The following 39 toxic & essential elements are tested:
Aluminum — Al
Antimony — Sb
Arsenic — As

High levels of toxins and essential elements are bad for health and signs of potential future problems. They are known to cause hair loss (alopecia), chronic fatigue, abdominal pain, kidney problems, muscle and joint pain.
The CDC acknowledges that high mercury levels from fish consumption are a serious problem for newborns and pregnant mothers.
Certain metals and elements are necessary for proper functioning of the body (e.g., iodine is essential for thyroid). Therefore, any deficiency can be corrected with supplementation or dietary changes once confirmed.
Many other elements accumulate in the body from pesticides in foods, dyes, preservatives, industrial sites, and other sources you might not be aware of. Checking your levels can help you re-assess what might be the sources of these toxins.
An easy, simple and affordable method for measuring your levels is by using an at home hair test.
As hair grow, the metals and toxins are permanently deposited and are good record of accumulation over time.
Toxic elements maybe several hundred times more concentrated in hair than blood, urine or saliva. Once deposited, they levels do not change which makes them more reliable than other types of samples.
Simply order the test kit, collect the sample at home, ship it for FREE (for orders within US) to our world class CLIA-certified labs, and find out your levels within days. The test uses a few strands of hair that can provide valuable information for your doctor when combined with symptoms and other laboratory tests.
Hair testing is highly reliable and has improved dramatically over past few years with latest technical advances.
The US EPA says "...if hair samples are properly collected and cleaned, and analyzed by the best analytic methods, using standards and blanks as required, in a clean and reliable laboratory by experienced personnel, the data are reliable." (U.S.E.P.A. 600/4-79-049).
The biggest advantage of a hair sample is ease of collection (compared to a blood draw). The test only requires about 0.25 gram of sample from 1-2 cm long strands.
However, any treatment such as coloring, dyeing, shampoo, bleach, straightening and perms can interfere with the results.
Few things to note while collecting a hair sample:
Use stainless steel scissors (to avoid contamination).
Cut from the back of the head.
Cut as close to the scalp as possible. Anyone with long hair should keep about 1 inch of hair strands nearest to the scalp & discard the rest (the latest exposure to toxins is in hair closed to the scalp).
Pick the hair from 5-6 different areas to cover most of your head.
If your hair is treated with dye or chemicals, collect from other parts of the body (pubes, armpits, etc.)
Do not mix hair from scalp and other parts of the body (as they grow at different rates).
The test does not require any special diet and no changes in medication or supplement routines are needed. In general, changes to medication should not be made without consulting your doctor as it can affect your health in other ways.

A: Measuring toxic metals and elemental toxins is a well researched and thoroughly documented procedure.
The variations in results are mainly from two sources: the way samples are collected and the variation from lab-to-lab.
To minimize the first variation, we provide detailed instructions on how to collect the sample.
To minimize the variation from labs, we have partnered with CLIA-certified labs that are regulated by the states, as well as Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Majority of the tests from these labs are FDA approved to ensure they meet the proper regulatory requirements. Additionally, the College of American Pathologists (CAP) requires inter-laboratory tests to ensure the ranges established by each lab do not drift or are not out of acceptable ranges. This is done by regularly testing reference samples between different labs. Finally, the labs test thousands of samples for different age groups and health conditions, and have well established reference data to compare your results against this large pool.
A: Unfortunately, no. As a lab test provider we can only test and report out data from your sample. We are not authorized to provide any medical recommendations. But we strongly encourage you to discuss the results with your doctor for next steps.
