Papillomas are raised skin bumps (i.e., elevation on the skin), that often look like a dome or blamish.
They are generally benign screen protrusions, sometimes appear as thin finger-like or papillary structures.
Majority of papillomas are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV looks like a bucky ball with 72 pentagonal 'patches' and comes in many varieties.
About 10% population has HPV infection (11-12% as per studies).
Non-viral, harmless skin tags ('acrochordons') occur in about half the people (at 46%); but they are more common among older population & often spread through skin-to-skin contact.
Genital warts are rare (0.1 - 0.2% in developing countries) & mainly occur in teenagers and young adults of both genders.
Over 175 varieties of HPV has been reported.
Types 6, 7 and 11 are most common but low risk and often spread through skin or sexual contact.
Almost all genital warts have one of this HPV variety.
Most infections are among children and young adults.
HPV vaccine is recommended for boys and girls at the age of 9 to 12 years.
The 9-valent vaccine protects against HPV subtypes 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58.
HPV is known to cause at least six different kinds of cancers including cervical and anal cancers.

An HPV Test Panel detects and differentiates 13 high-risk varieties.
It uses a multiplex Real-Time PCR method to target the L1-major capsid region, which has at least 10% difference between different varieties.

A: We have partnered with CLIA-certified labs that are used by physicians across the US. These labs are regulated by the states, as well as Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Many tests from these labs are FDA approved to ensure they meet the proper regulatory requirements. Additionally, the College of American Pathologists (CAP) requires inter-laboratory tests to ensure the ranges established by each lab do not drift or are within acceptable ranges. This is done through regularly testing reference samples between different labs. Finally, the labs test thousands of sample for different age groups and health conditions, and have well established reference data to compare your results against this large pool.
A: Unfortunately, not at this point. As a lab test provider we can only test and report out data from your samples. We are not authorized to provide any medical recommendations. But we strongly encourage you to discuss the results with your doctor for next steps.
